Description

2015 was a record year for this successful multifaceted retail awards, engraving & promotional products business; and what a great way to end a 21 year run, but it is now time for the original owner to transition the company to a new owner-operator. Additionally, for a buyer just interested in part time involvement, the seller would be willing to stay on and run the business for a significant period post-close.

The business has numerous revenue streams: plaques (21.5% of sales); trophies (19% of sales); promotional products (7.6%); medallions (7.4%); acrylic awards (7.1%); plates (6.8%); with several other categories comprising another 31% of sales. And all this with only four full time employees to help the seller.

Operating out of a leased 2,150 sf building (1250 in retail space, 900 in storage space) on a well traveled road in a desirable community in SE Michigan, the company enjoys a very favorable $2,300 monthly rent, which is only 3.5% of 2015 revenues. This is primarily a “b to b” business, with corporate customers, charities, and schools accounting for 76% of revenues. Customer concentration isn’t a problem, with the top customer for the past 3 years accounting for 11.6% of sales. Online sales account for 16% of revenues while the rest come from the retail store.

Competition is scarce, with only two other shops within a 20 mile radius that are true competitors across many of the products offered.

The business has grown revenues steadily during the past three years from $640,000 (2013) to more than $750,000 (2015). SDE (seller’s discretionary earnings - the historical, normalized cash flow available to pay an owner-operator and service debt) was an impressive $193,000 in 2015. The business is being offered for $375,000 (a highly favorable 1.95x 2015 SDE) in an asset sale which has the seller retaining cash and A/R, while retiring all liabilities. The listing price includes all equipment and inventory. A seller note will be available to a qualified buyer.
